What Is a Terp Slurper & How Do You Use One?
If you've been dabbing for a while, you've probably heard the term "terp slurper" thrown around. Maybe you've seen one at a friend's place and had no idea what it was. Or maybe you picked one up and still aren't totally sure you're using it right.
Either way, you're in the right place. Let's break it all down: what a terp slurper is, how it works, and how to actually use one so you're getting the most out of your concentrates.
What Is a Terp Slurper?
A terp slurper is a type of quartz banger built to vaporize concentrates more efficiently than a standard flat-bottom banger. The name comes from the way it literally "slurps" your concentrate up from the bottom. Instead of your wax just sitting in a dish and burning, a terp slurper pulls it up through slits in the base and through a vertical tube, exposing more surface area to heat at once.
The result? Bigger, cleaner, more flavorful hits with way less wasted concentrate pooling at the bottom.
A terp slurper has three main sections:
- The dish: the bottom cup where you load your concentrate
- The tube: the vertical middle section vapor travels through
- The top opening: where your carb cap and marbles sit to control airflow
What Are Terp Balls and Marbles For?
This is where most people get a little confused. When you buy a terp slurper set, it usually comes with marbles or a ball-and-chain setup. They're not just there to look cool. They actually do something.
The marble sits on top of the tube and acts as a seal, trapping heat and vapor inside. When you inhale, the airflow causes the marble to spin, which pushes your concentrate around the dish and through the slits more evenly. It's basically a self-stirring system for your dab. Pretty clever design honestly.
Our 3 Piece Terp Slurper Marble Set comes with a 24mm top marble, an 11mm middle marble, and a 14mm terp pill. Each one does a specific job to keep concentrate moving and vapor thick. If you want a fuller setup, the 4 Piece Marble Set gives you a little more to work with right out of the box.
Prefer the ball and chain style? The 1 Piece Ball and Chain with Silicone Jar is a solid option. It comes in a bunch of colors and includes a silicone storage jar so everything stays in one place between sessions.
How to Use a Terp Slurper (Step by Step)
Using a terp slurper is a little different from a regular banger, but once it clicks, it genuinely changes how you dab. Here's how to do it.
What you'll need:
- A terp slurper banger (14mm fits most rigs)
- Your marble or ball-and-chain set
- A carb cap
- A torch
- Your concentrate
Step 1: Heat the Banger
Torch the bottom dish and the neck of the terp slurper until the quartz starts to glow just slightly. This takes a bit longer than a standard flat banger because there's more surface area to heat up. Figure around 30 to 45 seconds with a regular torch, maybe a touch longer if your quartz is thick.
Step 2: Let It Cool Down
This is the step most people rush, and it's also the most important one. Let the banger cool for 45 to 60 seconds depending on how thick your quartz is. Too hot and you'll scorch your concentrate and lose all the flavor. Too cold and it won't vaporize properly. If you're new to it, start at 60 seconds and dial it in from there until you find your sweet spot.
Step 3: Load Your Concentrate
Drop a small amount of concentrate directly into the bottom dish. Not the tube, just the dish at the base. A rice-grain to pea-sized amount is plenty to start. You can always do more once you know how your setup handles it, but terp slurpers are genuinely efficient so don't overdo it on the first try.
Step 4: Place Your Marble and Inhale
Drop your smaller terp ball into the tube, then place the top marble over the opening. Start inhaling slowly and steadily. You should see your concentrate bubble and get pulled up through the slits in the dish. The marble will start to spin from the airflow. That's exactly what you want to see happening.
Step 5: Clean It While It's Warm
Right after your hit, while the banger is still warm (not hot), use a cotton swab to wipe out any remaining residue in the dish. Keeping it clean after every session means your flavor stays dialed in and your quartz lasts a lot longer. It takes 10 seconds and it's worth it every time.
Terp Slurper vs. Regular Banger: What's the Difference?
Quick comparison if you're trying to decide which is right for you:
| Terp Slurper | Regular Banger | |
|---|---|---|
| Concentrate efficiency | High (pulls it through the slits) | Medium (concentrate can pool and waste) |
| Flavor | Very clean at low temps | Good, but easier to accidentally overheat |
| Learning curve | Moderate | Low |
| Best for | Concentrates, live resin, rosin | All-around, great starting point |
For most experienced dabbers, the terp slurper wins on flavor and efficiency. That said, if you're brand new to dabbing, there's nothing wrong with starting on a standard banger and graduating to a terp slurper once you've got your temperatures dialed in.
Tips for Getting the Most Out of Your Terp Slurper
A few things that make a real difference once you're up and running:
Go low and slow on temps. Lower temp dabs, somewhere around 450 to 500°F, preserve way more flavor and are a lot smoother. Most beginners torch too long and run too hot. Dial it back and you'll notice immediately.
Don't overload the dish. A little concentrate goes a long way with a terp slurper. Pack it too full and it pools instead of slurping, which defeats the whole point of the design.
Keep your marbles clean. Residue builds up on the marbles over time and affects how well they spin and seal. A quick soak in isopropyl alcohol once a week keeps them working like new.
Match your banger to your rig. Our terp slurper quartz banger kits are 14mm 90°, which fits the majority of dab rigs on the market. If you're not sure what size your rig takes, check the joint. It'll say 10mm, 14mm, or 18mm.
Ready to Try One?
If you want to jump in with a complete setup, our 14MM 90° Terp Slurper Quartz Banger Kits come with the banger, carb cap, and terp balls already included. No piecing things together separately. We've got multiple kit versions depending on what style of marble setup you like best.
Already have a banger and just need the accessories? Grab a 3 piece marble set, a 4 piece marble set, or a ball and chain set on their own.
Once you try a terp slurper, going back to a flat banger honestly feels like leaving flavor on the table. Literally.
