Glossary of Terms
In this industry, there are a variety of terms that may need explaining for anyone who isn't yet familiar with the products on offer. Whether you're brand new to glass or just want to brush up on terminology, you can learn everything you need to know right here in our glossary.

45° / 90° Joint Angle
The angle at which a banger or bowl meets your rig. A 90° banger stands straight up and is easy to load and cap; a 45° banger sits at a slant, which many prefer for airflow and for keeping concentrate pooled at the bottom. Choose the angle that matches your rig's joint.
420
Slang and shorthand for cannabis culture, tied to the time 4:20 and the date April 20th, both informally associated with consuming cannabis.
510 Thread
The universal screw-on connection used by most vape cartridges and batteries. If a cart is "510 thread," it fits any 510 battery. Keep yours powered with a 510 battery charger.
710
Slang for concentrate and dabbing culture—"710" spells "OIL" upside down. Where 420 is associated with flower, 710 is associated with oils, waxes, and other concentrates.
A
Airflow
How air (and vapor) moves through a piece as you inhale. Good airflow means a smoother, easier pull. Carb caps, terp balls, and downstem design all affect airflow.
Ash Catcher
An attachment that sits between the bowl and a waterpipe to trap ash and debris before they reach the water, keeping the piece cleaner for longer and adding extra filtration.
B
Banger
The bucket-shaped dish, usually quartz, where you drop your concentrate to vaporize it on a dab rig. Bangers come in different joint sizes, angles, and wall thicknesses. Want everything in one box? See our quartz banger kits.
Blunt
Ground flower rolled inside a tobacco-leaf or hemp wrap, typically thicker and slower-burning than a joint. A glass blunt recreates the format in reusable glass—no wrap or rolling required.
Borosilicate (Pyrex)
A durable, heat-resistant glass used for pipes and many accessories. It handles everyday use well but isn't meant for the extreme heat of dabbing the way quartz is. See our breakdown of Pyrex vs. Quartz.
Bowl (Slide)
The removable piece that holds your dry herb and drops into the downstem of a waterpipe. Also called a "slide." Explore our hybrid bowls.
Bubble Hash
A solventless concentrate made by agitating cannabis in ice water so the trichomes (resin glands) break off and are filtered through mesh bags. Named for the way quality bubble hash bubbles when heated.
Bubbler

Budder
A soft, cake-batter-textured cannabis concentrate whipped during processing to a creamy consistency. Prized for strong flavor and easy handling when dabbing.
C
Carb
A small hole on a hand pipe that you cover and release with a finger to control airflow and clear smoke. Covering it builds the hit; releasing it lets you inhale cleanly.
Carb Cap

C Clip
A small clip that holds a two-piece nectar collector together securely so it won't come apart mid-session. Grab replacements in our C Clips collection.
Chazzing
The cloudy, whitish discoloration that builds up on a quartz banger over time from high-temp dabs and residue. Proper cleaning and low-temp dabbing help prevent it and keep your quartz clear.
Chillum
A simple, straight, one-piece pipe—essentially a larger glass one-hitter with no carb. Great for a quick, no-fuss session. Shop chillums & one-hitters.
Concentrate
A potent extract made from cannabis or hemp—wax, shatter, budder, crumble, live resin, and rosin all fall under this umbrella. Concentrates are what you dab. Keep yours fresh in our concentrate storage containers.
Concentrate Vaporizer
A device that heats concentrate electronically instead of with a torch, letting you vape wax on the go. See our concentrate vaporizers.
Converter
An adapter that changes a joint from one size or gender to another so mismatched pieces fit together. Find the right one in our converters collection.
Cross Joint
An elaborate rolled smoke shaped like a plus sign, with a smaller joint pushed through a larger one so three tips light at once. More of a novelty than an everyday roll.
Crumble
A dry, crumbly cannabis concentrate that breaks apart easily into a sandy or honeycomb texture. Its loose consistency makes it easy to portion onto a banger or sprinkle into a bowl.
D
Dab
A single small dose of concentrate—about enough for one hit—that you vaporize on a heated banger or nail.
Dabbing
The act of vaporizing concentrate on a hot surface and inhaling it, usually through a dab rig or nectar collector. It delivers fast, flavorful, potent hits.
Dab Rig
A water pipe designed specifically for concentrates. It works like a bong but uses a banger or nail instead of a bowl, filtering the vapor through water for a cooler hit.
Dab Straw (Nectar Collector)
A straw-style dab tool: you heat the tip, then touch it directly to your concentrate and inhale through the other end. Portable and efficient. Shop our dab straws & nectar collectors.
Dab Tool (Dabber)
The pick or wand used to scoop and place concentrate onto a hot banger without burning your fingers or wasting product. Browse dab tools.
Diffuser Beads
Small beads (often glass or ceramic) added to a piece to break up smoke into finer bubbles for extra filtration and a smoother hit. See diffuser beads.
Diffusion / Diffused
The process of breaking smoke into small bubbles as it passes through water, cooling and smoothing the hit. A "diffused" downstem has slits that do this.
Distillate
A highly refined, nearly odorless cannabis oil stripped down to a single cannabinoid (like THC or CBD). Common in vape cartridges and edibles for its purity and potency.
Downstem
The tube that carries smoke from the bowl down into the water of a waterpipe. Downstems come in different lengths and joint sizes and are easy to replace. Find your fit in downstems.
Drop-in (Bucket)
A quartz insert that drops into a banger to hold your concentrate, making loading, cleaning, and heat control easier. Explore drop-ins.
Dry Herb
Ground flower, as opposed to concentrate. Pipes, bowls, and dugouts are built for dry herb. See all products for dry herb.
Dugout
A compact carrying case that stores ground herb alongside a one-hitter for a quick, discreet session on the go. Shop dugouts.
E
E-Nail (Electric Nail)
An electronic heating element that keeps a banger or nail at a precise, steady temperature—no torch required. It makes low-temp dabbing consistent and repeatable.
F
Flower
Slang for dry herb—the dried, cured buds of the cannabis plant. A "flower bowl," for example, is a bowl used for smoking dry herb rather than concentrate.
G
Gandalf Pipe
A long-stemmed hand pipe styled after the wizard's pipe in fantasy lore. The extended stem cools smoke on its way to the mouthpiece and makes for a distinctive look.
Glass Blunt
A reusable glass tube that holds ground herb and lets you push out ash as you smoke—no rolling papers needed. Shop glass blunts.
Gravity Bong
A waterpipe that uses water draining from a chamber to pull smoke through the bowl, building a large, concentrated hit. Often improvised, but also sold as a finished piece.
Grinder
A tool with interlocking teeth that breaks flower into an even, fluffy consistency for better airflow and a slower, more even burn. Many grinders also collect kief in a bottom chamber.
Ground Joint
The frosted, textured connection where two glass pieces (like a banger and rig) seal together. Ground joints come in standard sizes—commonly 10mm, 14mm, and 18mm—and can be male or female.
H
Hand Pipe
A handheld dry pipe for flower, typically with a bowl and a carb. Our EZ Clean Hand Pipes feature a removable bowl for fast, easy cleaning.
Hash
One of the oldest cannabis concentrates, made by collecting and compressing the plant's resin (trichomes) into a pliable block or ball. It can be smoked in a pipe, added to flower, or dabbed.
Hemp Wick
A length of twine (usually hemp) coated in beeswax, lit as a slow-burning flame source. Many prefer it over a lighter to avoid inhaling butane and to enjoy cleaner flavor.
J
Joint
Ground flower rolled in thin rolling paper, twisted or tucked at the ends. A glass rolling tip at the mouth end keeps the draw clean and cool.
Joint Size (Glass Fitting: 10mm / 14mm / 18mm)
The diameter of a ground-glass connection between your rig and a banger, bowl, or downstem. Matching joint sizes is essential for a proper fit—14mm is the most common. When in doubt, measure or check the product listing before buying.
K
Kief
The fine, powdery collection of trichomes (resin glands) that fall off flower, often gathered in the bottom chamber of a grinder. Potent on its own and can be sprinkled on a bowl or pressed into hash.
L
Live Resin
A flavorful concentrate made from cannabis that's flash-frozen right after harvest instead of dried, preserving more of the plant's natural terpenes and aroma.
Low-Temp Dab
Dabbing at a lower banger temperature (paired with a carb cap) to preserve flavor and terpenes and reduce harshness. Widely considered the best way to taste your concentrate.
M
Male / Female Joint
Describes how two glass pieces connect. A male joint fits inside a female joint. Your banger and rig must be opposite genders (and the same size) to fit—converters can bridge a mismatch.
Moon Rocks
Cannabis flower dipped in concentrate (like hash oil) and rolled in kief, creating an extra-potent "three-layer" product. Best broken up by hand rather than in a grinder.
N
Nectar Collector

O
One-Hitter
A small, cigarette-sized pipe that holds a single hit—perfect for portability and portion control. Often paired with a dugout. Shop one-hitters.
P
Percolator (Perc)
An added filtration chamber inside a waterpipe that breaks smoke into bubbles for a cooler, smoother hit. Comes in styles like showerhead, tree, and inline.
Pipe Screen
A small mesh screen placed in a bowl to keep ash and debris from being pulled through into your mouth. Stock up on pipe screens.
Pre-Roll
A ready-made joint or cone sold already filled and rolled, so there's nothing to prepare. A convenient option for anyone who doesn't want to roll their own.
Q
Quartz
The go-to material for bangers and nails. Quartz handles very high heat, heats and cools quickly, and delivers clean flavor—ideal for dabbing. Shop quartz bangers.
R
Reclaim
The leftover concentrate residue that collects in a rig or reclaimer after dabbing. It can be saved and reused rather than wasted.
Reclaimer
An attachment that catches reclaim before it reaches your rig's water, keeping the piece cleaner and letting you collect leftover concentrate. See our Reclaim-It reclaimer.
Resin
The sticky substance the cannabis plant produces, rich in cannabinoids and terpenes. "Resin" can refer to the fresh plant resin used to make concentrates or to the tar-like buildup left inside a used pipe.
Roach Clip (Crutch Clip)
A small clip that holds the end of a rolled smoke so you can finish it without burning your fingers. Browse roach clips.
Rolling Tips (Glass Tips)
Reusable mouthpieces placed at the end of a rolled smoke for a cleaner draw and a comfortable, filter-like tip. Shop rolling tips.
Rolling Tray
A flat, raised-edge tray that gives you a clean, contained surface to grind, sort, and roll on—and keeps loose herb from scattering.
Rosin
A solventless concentrate made by pressing cannabis flower or hash with heat and pressure to squeeze out its resin. Popular for being potent and made without chemical solvents.
S
Seasoning
The process of prepping a brand-new quartz banger—heating and cooling it, sometimes with a small amount of concentrate—to clean it and improve flavor before first real use.
Shatter
A glass-like cannabis concentrate that's hard, translucent, and snaps or shatters when broken. Known for high potency and a clean, stable form.
Sherlock Pipe
A hand pipe with a curved, arching stem that resembles the detective's classic pipe. The shape lifts the bowl away from your hand and gives smoke a little room to cool.
Silicone
A flexible, near-indestructible material used for storage jars, straws, and reclaimers. It's heat-tolerant, easy to clean, and won't shatter. See our silicone products.
Spinner Carb Cap
A carb cap with a directional air hole that lets you spin terp balls inside the banger, evenly spreading concentrate for a more complete, efficient dab. Explore spinner carb caps.
Spliff
A rolled smoke that blends cannabis with tobacco. Common in Europe, it sits somewhere between a joint (all flower) and a cigarette in feel.
Spoon Pipe
The classic hand pipe shape—a bowl on one end, a mouthpiece on the other, and a carb on the side—named for its spoon-like profile. Simple, pocketable, and easy to use.
Steamroller
A straight, tube-shaped pipe with a bowl on top and open ends, delivering a fast, powerful hit. Best suited to experienced smokers because of how quickly it clears.
T
Terp Balls (Terp Pearls)
Small quartz, ruby, or glass balls dropped into a banger. When you spin them with a carb cap, they distribute your concentrate and boost vaporization for bigger, tastier hits. Shop terp balls and terp accessories.
Terp Slurper
A specialized banger style with multiple chambers and slits that continuously pulls concentrate through as it heats, maximizing airflow and flavor.
Terpenes
The aromatic compounds that give cannabis (and many plants) their distinctive smells and flavors—citrus, pine, diesel, and more. Low-temp dabbing helps preserve them for better taste.
Torch
A butane (or propane) flame tool used to heat a banger or nail before a dab. The classic alternative to an e-nail.
V
Vaporizer
A device that heats flower or concentrate to a temperature that releases vapor without full combustion, for a smoother draw and less smoke. See our concentrate vaporizers.
W
Waterpipe (Bong)
A pipe that filters smoke through water for a cooler, smoother hit. Larger than a bubbler, it typically uses a tube, downstem, and bowl. Keep it running with the right downstems and screens.
Wax
A broad term for soft, opaque cannabis concentrates with a wax-like texture (including budder and crumble). Wax is dabbed on a hot banger or nail for potent, flavorful hits.
